Swirl Soup | The Creative Process
Swirl | swərl/ | verb. To move with a whirling motion.
To be dizzy or disoriented.
Soup | /so͞op/ (as in pri·mor·di·al soup) | noun. A liquid rich in organic compounds providing favorable conditions for the emerging and growth of life forms.
The Creative Process, as experienced through the creative expressive arts, is one path to self-discovery, self-esteem and empowerment. The Creative Process may disorient us at times. It also makes us dizzy with curiosity, discovery & joy! As our energy swirls in favorable conditions, we emerge and grow into the best version of ourselves.
It can be scary to begin your Creative Process.
Inner critical voices whisper and shout:
“I don’t have a creative bone in my body.”
“I can’t draw; my sister is the real artist in our family.”
“I’m going to fail and look stupid.”
“Someone has done it before…and better!”
“My ideas are not good. I’m not qualified.”
“If I try to paint or take singing lessons I will look silly and make mistakes.”
We often don’t try because we are afraid to fail. We hide creativity scars from our childhood. We are afraid to be judged, look silly and make mistakes.
How do we allow ourselves to be less stressed, more trusting, and quiet the voices of the inner critics to embrace our Creative Process?
We Play! Play is the state where uncertainty is fun again! Mistakes and experiments lead us to explore possibilities. We praise our attempts. We encourage and acknowledge each other. When we play, we unleash and nurture our curiosity & creativity. We take more chances doing the things that are most important to us. We try out new versions of ourselves.
